GMC has carried out in-depth theme education on learning and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, transformed the enthusiasm for study and work stimulated by the theme education into a strong impetus to promote the ecological construction of Green and Beautiful Guangdong, and made every effort to create high-quality ecological projects.
On May 5, China Water Engineering Association issued the Decision on Issuing the 2021-2022 China Water Engineering Quality Award (Dayu) Award. The "One River and Two Banks" Comprehensive Water Conservancy Improvement Project in Zengcheng District, undertaken by Guangzhou Municipal Machinery Construction Co., Ltd. under GMC and designed by Qiancaotang, a subsidiary of GMC Landscape, was listed. This award is the highest award for high-quality projects in China's water conservancy industry. It is commended and awarded every two years. There are 36 shortlisted projects this time, of which the Zengjiang "One River and Two Banks" Project is the only project winning the award in Guangzhou.
The project is located in the lower reaches of Zengjiang Gallery, a national water conservancy scenic spot. It is an important livelihood project in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou. The project starts from Guanghui Bridge and ends at Chuxi Barrage, totaling about 13 km. The 6.5-km reach in the lower reaches is a pilot project for Guangzhou Ecological Belt construction, covering five major construction tasks: water resources guarantee, water safety improvement, water environment improvement, water ecological protection and restoration, and landscape and recreation system construction.
With a total investment of about RMB 350 million, the project started in September 2019, was put into operation in December 2020, and passed the final acceptance in May 2022. During the construction, the construction team overcame challenges such as wide construction scope, tight construction period, high difficulty in organization and coordination, refined landscape technology requirements, and strict process environmental protection requirements. It applied innovative construction methods and technologies such as "anti-blocking soil treatment sewage" and building information modeling (BIM) according to local conditions. The project has won nearly 20 patents, and method and technology awards at all levels.
After the completion, the project effectively connected Lihu Lake with Lihu Wetland, realizing the connection of regional rivers and lakes. Zengjiang River has significantly improved its water quality, which is better than the Class III water standard all year round and reaches the Class II water standard in some periods. At the same time, the project effectively reduces regional water and soil loss, restores riverside ecology, realizes aquatic ecological protection and restoration, and improves regional biodiversity. The embankment of the river reach where the project is located has formed a complete flood control and drainage system, which has withstood the test of Typhoon Kompasu, dragon boat rain, and extraordinary rainstorms.
The project has distinctive theme nodes along the road, such as Shenghuangzhou, 3D ecological belt, Lihu Wetland, Hezhizhou Wetland Park, Peninsula Park, and Riverside Park. The project aims to build a diversified, ecologically vibrant waterfront belt along the Zengjiang River, enabling citizens to enjoy the pleasant scenery of the waterfront. It also promotes rural revitalization and urban upgrading on both sides of the river, and upgrades industries along the line.
As a "pilot project for Guangdong Ecological Belt construction", this project has been widely concerned and affirmed by all walks of life. It was rated as "the first green road for waterfront co-governance" by the Guangzhou River Chief System Office, promoted by Guangdong Provincial River Chief System Office as a "characteristic case of Guangdong Ecological Belt", and widely publicized nationwide by the Ministry of Water Resources as "beautiful rivers and lakes, happy rivers and lakes". The project has successively won many awards, such as the Guangdong Municipal Gold Award, Guangdong Municipal Excellent Model Project, Civilized Construction Site of Water Conservancy Construction Engineering in Guangdong Province, Guangzhou Water Quality Engineering Award, Guangzhou Construction Engineering Quality Award and Guangzhou Construction Engineering Quality Award (Wuyang Trophy).
